State of Astropy 2022

Description

This is the "State of Astropy" talk that opens the 2022 Astropy Coordination meeting. This talk summarizes the any new important developments in the Astropy project in the last year (releases, new contributors, new packages). As the projects grows, funding opportunities and a wider range of activities beyond the core Python package can bring in more contributors and allow the project to tackle previously unattainable goals, but it also raises new challenges to include contributors beyond the traditional coding-oriented programmer or astronomer. In particular, the Astropy project currently has a US-heavy contributor base, but the talk discusses other axes of diversity as well.

This talk is written in Google slides. A static version in other formats is deposited here for references.
