IMDb-based Italian TV Serial Production (2000-2023): Series Metadata and Episode Coverage

This dataset contains the complete catalog of 522 Italian TV scripted series that broadcast at least one episode between 2000 and 2023, identified through IMDb searches. The dataset was created for the study "Women Off-Screen: A Data-Driven Analysis of Gender Inequalities in Italian TV Serial Production (2000-2023)." 

The catalog represents the population of Italian TV scripted serial productions available on IMDb for this period, excluding non-fiction, animated content and web series, and including both linear and non-linear productions. 

VARIABLES:

• TV_series_title: The title of the TV series as listed on IMDb;
• TV_series_code: The unique IMDb identifier (tconst format, e.g., tt0086779), which can be used to access the series page at https://www.imdb.com/title/[code];
• TV_series_debut_year: The year in which the series first aired/premiered;
• TV_series_years: The complete range of years during which the series was in production and aired episodes (format: "YYYY-YYYY" for multi-year series, or "YYYY" for single-year productions);
• n_of_episodes_in_corpus: The number of episodes from this series broadcast in the timespan considerd (2000-2023). The number of episodes per series was estimated by cross-referencing IMDb, VOD platforms, Wikipedia, MYMovies and La Repubblica.

FILE FORMAT: CSV (Comma-Separated Values), UTF-8 encoding. The file can be opened with spreadsheet software (Excel, LibreOffice Calc, Google Sheets) or imported into statistical analysis software (R, Python, SPSS, Stata)
