CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
*Note: only accepted papers/talks will be published.
We ask that symposium attendees consider contributing to the event in one of two ways:
• Short papers (1,500-2,500 words)
• Lightning talk abstracts (500 words)
Deadline for submission: August 25, 2022
Notifications of acceptance: September 25, 2022.
*Please note your timezone in your submission.
Accepted submissions will be made available online prior to the beginning of the conference. This platform will allow community members to provide feedback and generate questions on the contributions prior to the symposium. These discussions will be used to seed breakout group discussions during the workshop itself.
Short Papers
There will be two short paper sessions, each with four papers, for a total of eight full papers. Presenters will be allowed 10 minutes plus 5 minutes of Q&A. Papers will be clustered by theme.
-
Should focus on the human side of information research and identify an alignment with at least one of the key symposium themes.
-
These should ideally provide the results of empirical research, either completed or ongoing.
-
Preference will be given to submissions that focus on the resilience of humans during times of crisis and change, or how our work as information researchers can contribute to positive change in the world.
-
Short paper topics will be discussed further during breakout group discussions, so submissions that generate stimulating dialogue and exchange are ideal.
Lightning Talks
Lightning talks are intended to be very brief, followed by an opportunity to have discussion. Each lightning talk is permitted 1 speaker, 3 minutes, up to 3 powerpoint slides, and 1 form of multimedia - e.g. video, audio clip. All talks are required to provide a question for group discussion.
-
Should focus on the human side of information research and identify an alignment with at least one of the key symposium themes.
-
Provide an opportunity for more one-on-one feedback on early work and work-in-progress.
-
Empirical results are not required.
-
Can include multimedia, technology demos, etc.
-
We encourage submissions that showcase (digitally through a video, animation, etc.) some novel ways of engagement with communities or ways of telling our research stories and creating change in the world through information research (e.g., information visualization techniques).
