Guidelines for storing research outputs in the Syke Zenodo Community

Syke is committed to disseminating its research as openly as possible and using platforms that support the easy reuse of research outputs. To this end, Syke encourages its staff to publish their research results on Zenodo. The purpose of the Syke Zenodo Community is to improve the accessibility and visibility of Syke’s research data and source code by aggregating them under the institute’s label.

The dissemination and reuse of research outputs are supported by making them openly available under the most permissive licenses possible. In line with our Open Data Policy, research data should be made available free of charge and reused under the CC BY license whenever possible. Staff are expected to ensure that any contractual, legal, or ethical disclosure constraints are respected before making outputs openly available on Zenodo.

The Syke Zenodo Community has been created specifically to compile research data and source code produced in Syke’s research, thereby enhancing their visibility on Zenodo. However, a wide range of output types are accepted in the Community.

Before the output is accepted, it will be curated by Syke's research data support. We will ensure that:

  • At least one author or creator is currently employed by Syke or was at the time the output was created.
  • Work or research has been produced or funded by Syke.
  • The submitter has the authority or permission to publish the output.
  • The metadata is sufficiently complete.
  • Any relevant external funders and projects are indicated.
  • The submission type aligns with the Community's guidelines.

Note: Peer-reviewed scientific articles and Syke's serial publications are not accepted. They must be stored in the Helda repository.

Note also that Zenodo is only one option for open access to outputs. For data, consider domain-specific repositories and data repositories recommended by journals and funders.

For more information on Syke's data principles, please refer to the Syke Open Data Policy.
